High School Seniors

Was I really ever a High School Senior? I guess I probably was but thankfully I survived and will never have to relive that time in my life. Not that it was bad or anything, well a little, mostly it was just really hard! Making all those life changing decisions while trying to make good grades and find a boyfriend, who needs that kind of stress?

Enough about me, let's talk about Karah. She is a senior this year and her mom bribed her into taking some photos this past weekend. Yes I said bribed, she was really not into the whole picture thing. You could not tell, she really was a natural.

Here are a few collages I made her, or her mom, whoever ...

As you can see, she is a very beautiful girl, her eyes are amazing, such a cool looking blue color. I had a lot of fun and even if she was forced into being there I think she did too.

Model Photos

A friend of mine is a photographer and she knew this young model who came to town and wanted photos taken on the Las Vegas strip. This young model had a friend and since her friend was coming, my photographer friend invited me along. For fun I took a few pictures of the model's friend, and I must say, it was very interesting. Here are a few of my favorite photos from the evening.

Nothing beats a black and white dress against a white wall.

I gotta admit, I love faces, focusing on them, probably my favorite.

This photo says, models in Las Vegas. I love it, I only wish model A had her eyes open.

Love the background on this one, Las Vegas strip, busy, people, cars ...

You always need a black and white photo with bars to back you up.

It was fun, very different from anything I have ever done but something I will probably try again in the future.

Little Baby Liam

9 1/2 months old, the bluest eyes imaginable, sweetest smile, and all around happy, Baby Liam! I could easily add all of his pictures but it is probably best if I pick only a few, so here are some of my favorites from the photo shoot today (in no particular order).

Babies are fun, hard because they move and wiggle around, but they give such great smiles.

Hiking with Rachel & Rachel

I went hiking with my good friends Rachel P, Rachel S and their kids. It was a nice day for a hike up at Mt. Charleston, the weather was cold and hot, but mostly perfect. I wasn't planning on taking "real" photographs but sometimes it just happens, then of course there are times when I can just edit a regular snapshot to look all fancy. Here are a few favorite photos from our trip today.

I love the last picture, well I love the perspective anyway, plus the bold colors are nice. Eh sometimes I am in the mood for soft pictures, sometime hard. Overall it was a great day. I didn't get any good pictures of my daughter but I am not a bit surprised, I take so many pictures of her I am too picky.

There are so many things to remember when taking photos, so many tricks, so many rules, so many ways to make your photos more exciting and colorful and alluring ... let's talk about perspective.

Perspective changes the way an object looks in size and distance to the camera. It is about the angle or level from where I take the photo. I try to think about different ways I can hold the camera so I get an interesting photo.

Today I wanted to try a fun perspective, I love laying on the floor. Yes even my hard cold tile is nice when I want a different perspective. I asked my daughter very nicely if she would lay on the floor with me. She agreed for the most part, I mean she got down on the floor but looking into the camera and staying still, two very important parts of me taking her photo, ya not so much, but as usual I got a few lucky shots and tried to make a game of it.

In this photo I put my light on soft to give it a certain feel, I had to use a high ISO due to the lack of much…

I am still working on my logo, as you can probably see, so if it keeps changing don't worry, I will pick one eventually!

Eyes in the Sun

My daughter has always been my inspiration for taking photos. I never knew something so pure and innocent existed until I had her, then I started to look around and saw beauty in new and exciting places. I love to practice taking photos of my Summer, she usually lets me and sometimes I get lucky and make magic with her eyes. After all, I love a good clear sharp colorful eye. In fact, I generally judge a face photo on the eyes, if they are nice and bright then I feel like I captured the moment. Good eyes are hard to do, especially in the middle of the day when the sun is shining but today I proved to myself that it is possible.

I took this photo at 1:00 pm and had it uploaded 45 minutes later, I was excited to see what I captured. Here are the settings:

Exposure: 0.008 sec (1/125)
Aperture: f/5.0
Focal Length: 98 mm
Focal Length: 97.9 mm
ISO Speed: 200

It was sunny outside but she was in the pool and it is mostly in the shade. I had to use a low aperture because the light wasn&…

Mother & Daughter

Donna is a friend of mine who let me take a few pictures of her yesterday. I was so excited, she told me I could do whatever I wanted so I had her stand upside down, sideways, lay down ... you can imagine how much fun I had. She was a natural, she really didn't have to do anything except look into my camera, the rest was easy.

Here are a few of my favorite shots. All the photos were taken inside at my home studio, err should I say in my living room with sheets. Natural lighting for the most part and lot of editing to adjust for the lack of light.

Since her daughter is as stunning as she is I took a few photos of her too. Her birthday is coming up, she is almost 3. Our daughters play together so nicely, they had fun hanging out while we took photos.

It was a great day, quick too, I think we spent less than an hour taking pictures. We all had a fun time and we have another photo shoot planned in the future, somewhere outside, at a park, with a lot of light!

Manual vs. Auto

A DSRL camera is (from wikipedia): A digital single-lens reflex camera (digital SLR or DSLR) is a digital camera that uses a mechanical mirror system and pentaprism to direct light from the lens to an optical viewfinder on the back of the camera.

To me, the best part about having a DSRL camera is the manual options. In auto the camera will take some amazing pictures, but on manual with more control the pictures can be even better.

Last night we were sitting outside. The sun had already gone behind the trees and there wasn't much light. I grabbed the camera and snapped a picture of my princess.

To me the photo is nice but very dark. Here are the auto settings:
Exposure: 0.005 sec (1/200)
Aperture: f/5.3
Focal Length: 165 mm
ISO Speed: 1600
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Off, Did not fire

It was dark, notice the 1600 ISO speed. I rarely ever use 1600 because the higher the ISO the grainier the photos will be if you were to print it, especially if it is a large photo. Oh and I never u…

A Pic in the Park

Looks like I am finally going to start taking pictures and asking people to pay me. After being pushed and pushed I am going to give it a try, so here I created a blog to talk about it and show off some photos.
